7 Injured When Driver Sideswipes Another Vehicle on Long Island

Seven people were injured, two seriously, in a crash on Long Island on the evening of Friday, December 4.

The accident occurred on Fifth Avenue near Reil Place in Bay Shore. According to police, a 28-year-old man was driving a 2019 Kia Sportage SUV south on Fifth Avenue when his vehicle was suddenly sideswiped by a Mercedes Benz sedan heading south. The collision resulted in the SUV spinning off the road into a wooded area, while the sedan also left the road and crashed into a tree.

As a result, the 20-year-old driver of the Mercedes and her front passenger, a 21-year-old Brentwood woman, were transported to Southside Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Meanwhile, a 22-year-old Bay Shore man who was in the backseat of the Mercedes was treated for minor injuries and released.

The driver of the SUV and his 25-year-old wife in the passenger seat, as well as their two children in the rear, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. All were released after being treated for minor injuries. Both vehicles were impounded so officers could check them for safety.
