Drunk Driver Kills One in Suffolk County Car Accident

An alleged drunk driver caused a recent collision involving three cars in Commack. The crash resulted in the death of a 42-year-old-man and injuries to the drunk driver.

According to information provided by the Suffolk County police, Louis Muicela was driving in his jeep heading north on Commack Road when he struck a Lincoln Town Car heading west at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike. The accident occurred around 4:15 a.m. After striking the Town Car, the Jeep then hit a Nissan that had been stopped at a red light at the intersection of Townline Road. The driver of the Lincoln was pronounced dead at the scene when medical responders arrived on site.

The driver of the Nissan did not suffer any injuries in the accident, but Muicela was taken to Huntington Hospital and treated for minor injuries. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and later was arraigned in Central Islip at First District Court.

Local authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and have impounded the vehicles involved in the accident.

When drivers hit the road under the influence, the results can be catastrophic. Impairment caused by alcohol drastically slows a driver’s reaction times, inhibits their ability to maintain control over their vehicle and generally makes them incapable of driving safely. The family of the deceased Lincoln driver could potentially be eligible for a wrongful death suit against Muicela if he is proven to have been drunk at the time of the accident, as his inebriation would make him liable in the incident.
