Five Injured in Brightwaters Car Accident

Five people were injured, one sustaining serious injuries, in an accident involving two vehicles in Brightwaters on Long Island.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 28. According to police, a 21-year-old man from West Babylon was driving his 2006 Hyundai sedan heading west on Montauk Highway, close to South Bay Avenue, when the vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic. This caused a collision with a 2015 Dodge Ram heading east.

A passenger in the front seat of the Hyundai was taken to South Side Hospital in Bay Shore to be treated for serious injuries. The driver of the Hyundai and a male passenger in the back seat were also transported to Bay Shore, but their injuries were deemed minor.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Dodge Ram and his 24-year-old female passenger were transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Islip to be treated for minor injuries as well.

Wrong-way collisions can be serious

Wrong-way collisions can result in serious injuries and fatalities, as they tend to involve two vehicles traveling at high speeds meeting head-on. The force of these impacts can be significant.

All drivers are responsible for traveling in the proper direction on the roads, and for staying on their side of the dividing line. A failure to do so could result in them being considered liable for the accident and any resulting injuries or fatalities.
