Police Search for Toyota Corolla Involved in Fatal Hit and Run

Suffolk County police detectives are looking for help in finding the driver of a Toyota Corolla believed to have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Brentwood.

The accident occurred Sunday, November 5. Detectives released a stock photo of an example of the vehicle, described as a red, burgundy or maroon Corolla, most likely a model from between 1998 and 2002. Police believe the car also has driver’s side damage from the crash, which happened on Suffolk Avenue, just west of its intersection with Eastern Avenue, at around 3:20 a.m.

A 26-year-old Bay Shore man was killed in the accident. A passing motorist found him lying in the street and immediately called 911. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Anyone with any information about the accident or suspect should call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.

Hit-and-runs can result in serious penalties

All drivers must remain at the scene of an accident long enough to exchange information with other the parties involved and wait for police to arrive. Leaving the scene is a misdemeanor offense that can rise to the level of a felony if the crash resulted in serious injuries or death.

A hit-and-run accident is particularly frustrating for injury victims, who usually must seek compensation from their own insurance providers to cover medical bills, rehabilitation expenses and other costs.
